Guides for the Perplexed: Aquinas and al-Ghazali on the Moral Life

Tuesday, March 14th 2017, 7:30pm

Marianne Farina, CSC, DSPT Professor of Philosophy and Theology, will explore the theological ethics of Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (1058-1111) and Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274). Grounded in their respective religious traditions, their virtue theories show us that dialectic processes in the search for truth, animate faith and foster justice. As virtuous persons we participate in dialogue and discernment to support ongoing learning and promote the common good. This lecture is free and open to the public. To RSVP or to watch the lecture on livestream, https://www.dspt.edu/events/detail/2017-aquinas-lecture. DSPT is at 2301 Vine Street, Berkeley, 94708. Light reception will follow in celebration of the 26th Annual Thomas Aquinas Lecture.
