Center for Islamic Studies welcomes our new and returning students, instructors, and visiting scholars for the academic year 2016-2017. We are honored and grateful to have Dr. Kei Takahashi from Sophia University in Tokyo, Japan, as a visiting scholar in Islamic Studies this academic year, and are deeply grateful to our continuing scholars, Islamic Art Historian Carol Bier and Dr. Nargis Virani, who add significantly to the academic and public programs of the CIS/GTU.

NEW Doug Adams Gallery Opens at the GTU

The new Doug Adams Gallery, operated by the Center for the Arts & Religion at the Graduate Theological Union, has its grand opening on Tuesday, September 6, at 5 pm.

Doctoral Students Participate in Asian Theological Summer Institute

Three GTU doctoral students traveled to Philadelphia this week to participate in the 10th annual Asian Theological Summer Institute (ATSI), held at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia from May 31 – June 4, 2016.

GTU Students Present at Interdisciplinary Conference in Japan

GTU doctoral students Daekyung Jung, Therese Bjørnaas, and Henry Kuo presented at the 5th Asian Conference on Ethics, Religion, and Philosophy (ACERP) in Kobe, Japan, this spring.

On a beautiful Thursday afternoon in Berkeley, fifty-seven graduates were honored at the GTU's 2016 Commencement Exercises. GTU Announces the Hiring of Dr. Uriah Y. Kim as Dean

The Graduate Theological Union of Berkeley, California, has announced the hiring of Dr. Uriah Y. Kim as Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs and John Dillenberger Professor of Biblical Studies. Dr. Kim will begin his service at the GTU in January 2017.
