GTU Establishes First Center for Dharma Studies in U.S.

The Graduate Theological Union has announced a $4.4 million gift from Mira and Ajay Shingal to establish and endow the first Center for Dharma Studies in the United States. The Center will focus on leading edge, multidisciplinary, graduate research and teaching in Hindu Studies and Dharma Studies.

CIS Honors Fall 2015 MA Graduates

On behalf of the Center for Islamic Studies at the GTU, we are delighted to share with you that we have four more outstanding students who have completed their MA in Islamic Studies. Formal and official conferral of degrees will take place at the GTU graduation in May 2016.

GTU Honors 2015 Alumna of the Year: Michelle Gonzalez Maldonado

The Graduate Theological Union is pleased to announce that Dr. Michelle Gonzalez Maldonado (Michelle A. Gonzalez), Professor of Religious Studies and Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Education at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida, has been named the GTU’s 2015 Alumna of the Year. Dr. Gonzalez, whose teaching specializations include Latino/a, Latin American, and Feminist Theologies as well as Afro-Caribbean Studies, received her PhD in Systematic and Philosophical Theology from the GTU in 2001.

Congratulations to Dr. Ahmed Zildzic who has just been named Associate Professor of Islamic Culture and Civilization in the Department for Oriental Philology (Arabic, Persian, Turkish) at the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. We are very grateful to Dr. Zildzic for his service to the CIS as Visiting Scholar and Lecturer, and for directing the Islamic Manuscripts Project at the GTU library (2014-2015).

The Center for Islamic Studies is delighted to share that CIS visiting scholar Dr. Nargis Virani; CIS lecturer, Dr. Som Pourfarzaneh; and CIS Director, Dr. Munir Jiwa, will be attending the Parliament of the Worlds Religions fostering collaborations on Muslim leadership. Oct 15-19, 2015, Salt Lake City.

Center for Swedenborgian Studies Becomes the GTU's Newest Center of Distinction

The Graduate Theological Union is pleased to welcome the Center for Swedenborgian Studies (CSS) as its newest Center of Distinction. The Center for Swedenborgian Studies offers theological education to men and women seeking to minister within the Swedenborgian Church, serves as a hub for scholarship regarding the Swedenborgian tradition, and provides Swedenborgian theological resources for the wider church and community.

GTU Adopts New Doctoral Program Curriculum

The Graduate Theological Union has adopted a new doctoral curriculum beginning in fall 2016 that builds on the strengths of the existing program while enhancing opportunities for interdisciplinary scholarship and interreligious conversation among students and faculty.
