Responding to the Call - Adapted from President Jim Donahue's Remarks at the 50th Anniversary Gala

For almost 40 years the GTU has been a significant part of my life, a part that underscored the theological notion of vocation that each of us is called in a particular way by God to enter a path that will enable us to grow and to use our skills and potentials to make a significant contribution to the world, along a path that will lead us to our own fulfillment.

Beginnings: The Formation and Early Years of the Graduate Theological Union

By any standard, the Graduate Theological Union is unique. Envisioned as a grand experiment of cooperation and collaboration, the consortium overcame the early struggles of pioneering new ground in graduate theological education.

Steven T. Georgiou lectures at Inaugural Robert Lax Week

Steven T. Georgiou (M.A. '98, Ph.D. '04) delivered the core lectures at St. Bonaventure University's inaugural Robert Lax Week, held March 4-8. Georgiou served as the "Lax Lecture Scholar" for the event due to his expertise on the hermit-sage of Patmos.

50th Anniversary Gala Celebrated the Success and Future of the GTU

The GTU’s Golden Anniversary was capped by a gala at the St. Regis in San Francisco on February 28. The event brought together the faculties and administration of the member schools, in addition to alumni, students, and supporters from the community, to celebrate the uniqueness of the GTU — honoring our history and looking toward our future.

SFTS Welcomes Noted African American Professor and Theologian Rev. Dr. Andrea C. White

GTU member school San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS) will host the annual T.V. Moore Lecture series on Thursday, April 11 and Friday, April 12.  The distinguished speaker for this year’s event is Rev. Dr. Andrea C. White, Assistant Professor of Theology and Culture at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology, and Associated Faculty in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and the Graduate Division of Religion.

James McDonald, President of SFTS, leads Marin CROP Walk to raise hunger awareness

Rev. Dr. James McDonald, president of San Francisco Theological Seminary (SFTS), will lead 30 Marin County churches and organizations for the 17th annual Marin Crop Walk On Sunday, April 21, in San Rafael.  The annual walk seeks to raise awareness of hunger related issues throughout the world.

GTU President James Donahue Selected as Next President of St. Mary's College of California

It is a bittersweet occasion for me to inform the GTU community that our beloved president, James Donahue, has been selected to be the next president of St. Mary’s College of California in Moraga. The first non-Christian Brother to be president of St. Mary’s, Jim will assume his new role in July 2013.
