Erin Armstrong, a second-year Master of Divinity student at Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary, is one of twelve seminary and divinity students chosen to participate in a summer program sponsored by Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE). Armstrong will participate in a two-week program designed for future clergy that includes travel to New York, Poland, and Germany.

The Graduate Theological Union and the Dharma Civilization Foundation have agreed to enter into a multi-phase partnership with the goal of establishing a Center for Dharma Studies within the GTU. The first two courses in Dharma studies will be offered in the fall semester of 2014.

March 18, 2014, Berkeley, CA – The Center for Islamic Studies (CIS) at the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) is pleased to announce the hiring of Dr. Mohamad Som Pourfarzaneh as its Associate Director of Public Programs and Lecturer in Islamic Studies. Dr. Pourfarzaneh will be working with Director Dr. Munir Jiwa to develop and direct the Center’s public and academic programs in Islamic Studies, as well as offering classes on Islam in the West, Islam and Media, and Islamophobia.

The FotoFest 2014 Biennial, the 15th International Biennial of Photography and Photo-related Art, is March 15 - April 27, 2014. FotoFest's own exhibitions for the 2014 Biennial will focus on Contemporary Arab Video, Photography and Multi Media art. The Biennial will showcase 48 contemporary Arab artists using photography and related visual media to address a broad range of aesthetic and cultural values impacting Arab culture.
The Center for Islamic Studies at the GTU is pleased to announce that visiting scholar, Carol Bier, will be giving the annual lecture at the Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz, California on February 15, 2014 from 1:00pm-2:00pm.

California Lutheran University (CLU) has appointed a former director for the Lutheran World Federation to oversee Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS) after it becomes part of the university on Jan. 1.
The Rev. Karen L. Bloomquist of Bellingham, Wash., will start Jan. 6 as the dean and chief administrative officer of PLTS. She will replace Phyllis Anderson, who is retiring as the seminary’s president.
