GTU Reception at AAR/SBL Annual Meetings

Joint Faculty Appointments at CDSP and PLTS

Beginning July 1, Steed V. Davidson and Bradley B. Burroughs will hold joint appointments on the faculties of Church Divinity School of the Pacific (CDSP) and Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary (PLTS); both are founding members of the GTU. Davidson already serves as a professor at PLTS, while Burroughs is new to both seminaries.

This summer, those looking for information on Moodle Basics have two options: Monday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 26, from 1 pm to 4 pm. These workshops are geared for people new to Moodle or those who want to review the basic information about using it. WizIQ is also offering a free online course on Teaching With Moodle.

CJS Director Seidman remembers her father who documented life in Warsaw ghetto

Recently, Naomi Seidman, Director of the Center for Jewish Studies, traveled to Warsaw in commemoration of the uprising and the publication of her father's diary into Polish. Upon her return, the j profiled the important work her father did. An excerpt follows:

“My father was the archivist of the pre-war Warsaw Jewish community,” Seidman said in an interview. “He wrote in Polish, Hebrew and Yiddish, and was a Ph.D. of Jewish history.”

In Memoriam: Dody Donnelly, first full-time female professor at the GTU

Dody DonnellyWe have received word of the death of Dr. Dody Donnelly, who taught at several schools in the GTU. She died in San Rafael on April 6, and there will be a memorial Mass for her on Friday, May 10 at 10.30 AM at the McLean Chapel on the campus of Holy Names University, 3500 Mountain Blvd. Oakland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amnesty International www.amnestyusa.org.

GTU Presence at AAR/SBL 2012

As has been the case for a number of years, GTU alumni, faculty, and students will make a strong showing during the 2012 Annual Meetings of the American Academy of Religion (AAR) and the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL). GTU connected persons will serve as 30 presenters, 7 panelists, 2 respondents, and 1 presider during SBL and 55 presenters, 6 panelists, 5 respondents, and 18 presiders during AAR. AAR and SBL are the central professional organizations for those engaged in religion and scholarship of the Bible.
