Ted Peters arrived at the GTU in 1978 and has taught in the doctoral program continuously into his present emeritus stage. His systematic theology, God--The World's Future, now in its 3rd edition, has been used as a text book in numerous seminaries around the world. For more than a decade he edited Dialog, A Journal of Theology. Along with Robert John Russell he is the co-founder and co-editor of the journal, Theology and Science, at the GTU's Center for Theology and the Natural Sciences. From 1990 to 1994 he served as Principal Investigator for a US NIH/ELSI grant to study the "Theological and Ethical Implications of the Human Genome Project." From 1998 to 2003 he directed the CTNS Science and Religion Course Program which fostered the development of new courses in science and religion around the world. Ted Peters has served both as interim dean of the GTU and interim president of PLTS. He is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
When preparing for a career in Ministry of Word and Sacrament, chaplaincy, higher education, community leadership, or scholarship, today's student must pursue public theology--that is, theological reflection in public on the existential questions rising out of the contemporary worldview(s) and the anxieties it produces.
