The Interreligious Chaplaincy Program (ICP) at the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), in partnership with the Center for Dharma Studies (CDS), is pleased to offer a merit-based fellowship for chaplaincy students who are pursuing Hindu Studies as part of their program, and/or are affiliated with the Hindu Spiritual Care Institute (HSCI).
The first of its kind, GTU’s Interreligious Chaplaincy Program equips leaders to practice spiritual care among diverse populations. The MJF Hindu Chaplaincy Fellowship, made possible through the generous donation of the Motwani Jadeja Foundation (MJF), offers a scholarship that covers partial tuition for ICP chaplaincy courses.
Eligibility: Applicants must demonstrate an existing connection to the community and practice. This can be accomplished by providing a letter of reference from a Hindu community leader or professional and a personal statement from the applicant describing their work and participation in Hindu communal life.
Deadline: The fellowship application and two essays must be submitted by the following dates:
For the fall semester: July 15
For the spring semester: December 15
Eligibility: Applicants must be students admitted to the Graduate Theological Union and affiliated with the Hindu Spiritual Care Institute (HSCI).
Financial Awards: The application will be sent to the MJF Hindu Chaplaincy Fellowship committee for review. The committee will decide eligibility, inform each fellowship applicant of its decision, and collaborate with GTU's Financial Aid Office to disburse the total amount awarded.
Application: To apply for the fellowship, applicants must submit two essays, a maximum of 1000 words each, in response to the questions below:
- What aspects of your previous work, study, or life experience have drawn you to the field of chaplaincy, with an emphasis on Hindu spiritual care?
- How do you intend to serve the Hindu community, and other communities, with the skills gained in this program?

The ICP offers a limited number of partial fellowships as part of admitted students’ complete financial aid package. All applicants for the MJF Hindu Chaplaincy Fellowship are encouraged, but not required, to complete a FAFSA in tandem with their Fellowship Application.
