Meg Mercury

Student Trustee-Elect

How would you describe your religious affiliation and/or spiritual background?

I was raised by Charismatic Evangelical Christian ministers, received my undergraduate education at an Assemblies of God university, did my seminary education with the United Church of Christ, preached my first sermon at a Unitarian Universalist congregation, and feel deep resonance with the idea that nature is sacred. I find both intellectual and spiritual fulfillment in ecumenical and interreligious commitments to learning with and from one another.

In one word, how would you describe the way you feel about the GTU?

Grateful.

What excites you about becoming a member of the GTU’s Board of Trustees?

It is a great privilege to represent the GTU student body on the Board of Trustees, especially at a point where the GTU is looking forward to visionary changes for the future.

What do you find inspiring about the future of the GTU?

I have always been conscious of the privilege I have in getting to study at the GTU, a world-class and completely one-of-a-kind institution, whose unique legacy is worth preserving for future generations of scholars to come. The efforts of GTU 2.0 to preserve what makes this place so exceptional while adapting the institution for the needs of today's students and tomorrow's religious leaders are what I find most inspiring.
