How do you get students into your university gallery or museum and ensure they feel comfortable using it as their own space? Student-led groups offer students the agency to set their own agenda and gain a level of comfort with the gallery setting, leading to lasting engagement with campus life.
Originally presented at the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries 2024 Conference Belong in June, this talk explores the ways in which gallery staff can empower students by looking at the history of the successful student-led group, the Creatives’ Cove, who champion creativity for all.
Since then, the Creatives' Cove has taken on new student leadership, and gone on its first off-campus field trip. Join us in the Gallery to chat about how CARe can best work with students to support their creative freedom and achieve a sense of belonging on campus. All suggestions from students warmly welcomed!
The Doug Adams Gallery is the primary exhibition space for the Center for the Arts & Religion at the Graduate Theological Union.
