Opening Reception! Sacred Mobility: The Travels of Hindu & Eastern Orthodox Holy Images Opening reception

Thursday, September 11th 2025, 5:00pm to 7:00pm
Doug Adams Gallery, 2400 Ridge Road Berkeley, CA 94709

Inspired by diasporic communities in the Bay Area, this exhibition explores the movement of sacred objects within Hindu and Eastern Orthodox traditions. The material manifestations of the sacred—gods, saints, divinity—move across space and time via physical transport and through replication and reproduction of images and objects. This sacrality expands by way of transformation reliant on the artists who create these works and devotees who activate their meaning. These movements bridge distances, ensuring that the faithful maintain connections to the divine regardless of how far they travel from their homelands.

Join us for a tour of the exhibition with Guest Curators Olga Yunak and Justin Grosnick. Refreshments will be provided!

The Doug Adams Gallery is the primary exhibition space for the Center for the Arts & Religion at the Graduate Theological Union.
