Entering your grades and returning papers in Moodle
It's the end of the semester and here are a few pointers on using your grade book, with information about how to enter grades and return graded assignments to your students.The grade book will automatically calculate the weight of each assignment saving you from having to do the math. Below are several practical steps to enter grades and return papers. You can also read an overview from Moodle about the Gradebook.
Entering and Editing Grades
To enter and edit your grades for the course, go your course in Moodle. On the settings panel, select Grades. This will take you to the Grader Report.
Click on the "Turn editing on" button in the upper right. You will now be able to enter or change grades. There's a video at the bottom of this post which goes through these steps.
View and Grade Assignments
To view and grade a particular assignment, go to your main course page and click on the assignment itself that looks like this: This will take you to the assignment, which includes a panel called "Grading Summary." Here you will see how many assignments have been submitted and how many are waiting for you to grade them. At the bottom is a link that says, "View/grade all submissions."
After you click that, you will see a list of your students and the assignments they have submitted in the column marked "File Submissions." Click on the file to view it.
Returning Papers to Students
To return the paper to the student, click on the icon in the grade column (shown on the left here). That will take you to a screen where you can enter the student's grade, send text comments to the student and upload the graded paper.
Returning student papers: Troubleshooting
If you don't see places for "Feedback comments" and "Feedback files," which allow you to send comments and the paper back to your student, check your settings under the assignment. Look under your Settings panel and you will see "Assignment Administration." Under that, click "Edit Settings." Scroll down until you see "Feedback settings." Pull down on the menu next to Feedback comments and Feedback files to turn them on (yes) or off (no). Go to the bottom of the page and save your changes. When you return to the assignment, you will now be able to send comments and return papers to the students.
