Is There a Jewish Mythology?--a Lecture by Howard Schwartz: Tuesday, March 8th 2016

At first glance, it might not seem to exist. After all, the central principle of Judaism is monotheism, and how can there be a mythology where there is only one God? But a closer examination of Judaism reveals a great many of the hallmarks of mythology, including a heaven populated not only by God and the angels, but by other divine figures, including the Bride of God and the Messiah. In this lecture, drawn from his book, Tree of Souls: The Mythology of Judaism, Howard Schwartz will weigh the evidence for and against the view that Judaism has its own extensive mythological tradition.
