The Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies and the Madrasa-Midrasha Program at the Graduate Theological Union are thrilled to offer another year of the modern Hebrew language intensive at the GTU in the summer of 2024. The course will meet from July 8th through July 26th.
“This course will enable students to access the classical Jewish library, as well as everyday Hebrew speech," said CJS Director Dr. Deena Aranoff on the announcement of this course: "For decades our students have looked elsewhere for this type of language work, and we are thrilled to offer it in-house.”
As a joint effort with the GTU’s Madrasa-Midrasha Program, this course has the interreligious and interlinguistic framework so critical for language study. Alongside Hebrew studies, the Madrasa-Midrasha Program will also be supporting summer library research in Arabic-language manuscripts. These summer offerings will include an evening program that will bring the Arabic language and the Hebrew language participants together for discussion and reflection.
Register for the course here. The course will be taught at the beginner level, though participants must be able to read Hebrew and to work their way through a basic Hebrew text. GTU degree program students as well as general community members are invited to register. Registration will close on Friday, June 14. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies and its Center for Islamic Studies, the program seeks to advance study, dialogue, and understanding on Jewish and Islamic texts and contexts within academia and the larger public. In addition to offering cross-cultural academic courses to GTU students, the program offers workshops, lectures, and panel discussions to the public at large in the greater San Francisco Bay area.
