Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology Names Sister Marianne Farina Interim President

BERKELEY, CA – January 23, 2023 – The Western Dominican Province announced today the appointment of Sister Marianne Farina, CSC, as Interim President of the Dominican School of Philosophy & Theology (DSPT).  

Sr. Farina will begin her tenure as Interim President immediately, following in the footsteps of Fr. Allen Moran, OP, who served as President beginning in July 2022 and was  elected as Prior Provincial for the Province of St. Joseph (Eastern Dominican Province) earlier this month 

Sr. Farina, a member of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, is Professor of Theology and Philosophy at DSPT and a member of the core doctoral faculty at the Graduate Theological Union. She received her BFA in Communication Arts from Parsons School of Design in 1974, her MA in Pastoral Theology from Santa Clara University in 1996, and a PhD in Theological Ethics from Boston College in 2004.  

She joined the GTU in 2005 as a member of the DSPT faculty, and has contributed to the programs of the college as Chair of the Theology Department and Director of the Master’s in Theological Studies.  

“I have valued the opportunity to work with Sr. Farina over many years, beginning in my role as Dean at the GTU. She’s a highly respected member of the Core Doctoral Faculty, and I have admired her work as a close collaborator with the GTU’s Center for Islamic Studies,” said GTU President Uriah Kim. “I look forward to welcoming her to the Consortial Council where she will be a valued contributor.”
