Dr. Uriah Y. Kim to Serve as Interim President of the Graduate Theological Union

Berkeley, CA - February 27, 2020

The Board of Trustees of the Graduate Theological Union has appointed Dr. Uriah Y. Kim as interim president of the GTU, while he continues in the role of Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs. A 2004 graduate of the GTU, Dr. Kim was honored as the GTU’s alumnus of the year in 2013, and has served as Dean since January 2017. As interim president, Dr. Kim will work closely with the Board of Trustees and Executive Team, and in collaboration with GTU faculty and staff, to ensure the continued smooth administration of the GTU.

In a letter to the GTU community, Dr. Kim said that it was his “priority to continue the vital work of building bridges” within the GTU community and beyond, “through the active fostering of philanthropy and strategic partnerships, as well as thoughtful, continued investment in academic innovation and ingenuity.”

Earlier this week the GTU Board of Trustees and Rabbi Daniel Lehmann shared news that Rabbi Lehmann had decided to resign as president of the GTU, and that the Board of Trustees had accepted his resignation. The board expressed great appreciation for Rabbi Lehmann’s service as president, and Rabbi Lehmann stated that it had been “an honor and privilege to serve this special community of learning.”
