A GTU Statement on the Mosque Attacks in New Zealand

March 15, 2019 - The Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley stands with people of peace everywhere in expressing our outrage and sadness at the horrific mass murder that took place during Friday prayer at two mosques in New Zealand.

GTU President Rabbi Daniel L. Lehmann stated, “The scourge of white supremacist terrorism and religious intolerance must be combatted with all of our resources. We pray for the victims of these mosque attacks and their families, and stand in solemn solidarity with all in the Muslim community. We at the GTU commit our educational and spiritual resources to thwart the despicable culture of religious hatred, violence, and bigotry that is spreading around the world.”

The GTU is making plans for a public gathering of its multi-religious community in response to this attack on people at prayer in their houses of worship.
