GTU Trustee Hal Leach and his Spouse Judy Leach Pledge $100k to the GTU

BERKELEY, CA – November 21, 2023 – The Graduate Theological Union (GTU) is pleased to share that Hal Leach, former Chair of the GTU Board of Trustees, and his spouse Judy Leach, have pledged $100,000 to the GTU.

Hal and Judy Leach have long been supporters of the GTU, with Hal's involvement dating back to 2004, serving in various roles until 2018. Hal concluded his tenure as the GTU Board Chair in 2016, dedicating the subsequent two years to developing a new governance structure for the institution.

"We are proud to continue our long-standing support of the GTU with this gift,” Hal and Judy Leach said in a joint statement. “Our confidence in and enthusiasm for President Uriah Kim's leadership has been a major source of inspiration and motivation for us. We firmly believe in the future direction of the GTU, and we are honored to contribute to the continued success and impact of this vital institution."

The Leaches’ gift to the GTU, coming on the heels of the institution’s 60th anniversary year, is a testament to their dedication to the GTU and the vital role that it plays in fostering interreligious life, learning, and leadership.

“We are immensely grateful for Hal and Judy’s unwavering support and are inspired by their dedication to advancing our mission,” said Uriah Kim, GTU President. “Their enduring legacy of leadership has played an instrumental role in shaping our institution's journey and reflects a deep understanding of the importance of ensuring GTU's future success.”

Hal and Judy Leach now join other trustees, such as William Glenn and his spouse Prescott Hafner, LaRae Quy and her spouse Roger Quy, and cherished former trustee Dale Walker, as well as an anonymous donor, in making six-figure commitments to the GTU since the launch of GTU 2.0, the institution’s 5-year strategic plan. This collective effort highlights the strong dedication of the GTU community to securing its future and maintaining its legacy of academic and theological excellence.
