Jibreel Delgado Named 2022 CARe Research Scholar

BERKELEY, CA – November 2, 2022 – The Center for the Arts & Religion (CARe) at the Graduate Theological Union (GTU) is delighted to announce its second CARe Research Scholar, Jibreel Delgado!

The CARe Research Scholarship offers $10,000 in tuition funds per year for two consecutive years to a PhD student focusing on the visual and material cultures of religion and/or a project at the intersection of religion and literature.

Jibreel Delgado is a PhD student affiliated with both the Center for the Arts & Religion and the Center for Islamic Studies at the GTU. After growing up in the Manhattan metropolitan area, he lived for several years in the Tampa Bay area in Florida, in Baja Arizona, and on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. Jibreel holds a Bachelor’s in Creative Writing and a Master’s in Near Eastern Studies. His doctoral research is on religion and literature in the Americas and in the greater Mediterranean region. We are very excited to have him as part of our community!

The CARe Research Scholarship is open to admitted PhD students at the GTU who demonstrate academic excellence, robust interdisciplinarity, and the ability to formulate and express ideas in a lucid and organized way. More information can be found at gtu.edu/carescholarships.
