The talk will explore a number of New Religious Movements that came about in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1960s-1970.  These include: the San Francisco Zen Center, the House of Love and Prayer, Chabad House, the Aquarian Minyan, and Jews for Jesus.  It will examine the role of San Francisco in allowing such movements to come about, the manner they operated, and the ways such groups provided paradigms for other centers and locals and further influenced the spiritual life in America of both Jews and non-Jews.
