Brown Bag Lunch - Dr. Rossitza Schroeder

Friday, October 5th 2018, 12:00am to 1:00pm
Doug Adams Gallery, 2465 Le Conte Avenue Berkeley, CA 94709

On October 5, Dr. Rossitza Schroeder (Associate Professor of Art and Religion, CARe/PSR) will be discussing Gentile Bellini’s 1480 portrait of Sultan Mehmed II.

This summer, with the help of a CARe Grant, Dr. Schroeder traveled to London and met with members of the curatorial and conservation staff at the National Gallery. This institution is in possession of Gentile Bellini's 1480 portrait of Sultan Mehmed II, which Dr. Schroeder has been studying for the past three years, tracing its sources to Byzantine and Italian religious art. Join us to learn more about her conversations with the curator of Renaissance Art and conservators to learn whether or not what we see today is true to what Bellini painted in the 15th century.

The Doug Adams Gallery is the primary exhibition space for the Center for the Arts & Religion at the Graduate Theological Union.
