Graduate Theological Union, 2400 Ridge Road Berkeley, CA 94709

Join the GTU community for this opportunity to learn about and then visit a Mormon temple. The Oakland Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is open to the public for the first time in over half a century. Recently renovated, the temple, in which sacred ordinances are performed, will be open to the public until May 31st.

The GTU community has a unique opportunity to learn about the temple through a special lecture presented by GTU Visiting Professor and Director of Mormon Studies, Dr. Robert Rees, “Inside the Latter-day Saints Oakland Temple,” which will take place on Tuesday, May 28, at 4 PM in the Collaborative Learning Space at the GTU.

On the following day, the GTU community is invited to a special group tour of the temple on Wednesday, May 29, from 5:30-6:30 pm (4770 Lincoln Ave, Oakland, CA 94602). Those interested in attending the open house (even if unable to attend the lecture) can do so by sending a request to Alison Mundy at the GTU (amundy@gtu.edu). Join us for this interreligious exploration and engagement! (Those attending the open house should meet at the fountain by the temple at 5:15 on Wednesday, May 29th).

The Collaborative Learning Space is the large glass room on the main level of the library.
